About UsWho we are
Research and clinical translation of regenerative medicine for 25 years
For over 25 years, Dr. Wehling has supported patients suffering from acute and chronic orthopedic diseases, complex pain conditions and autoimmune diseases.
The clinic Dr. Wehling & Partner is located in the heart of Düsseldorf, Germany. Since March 2021, the clinic can be found in Kasernenstraße 1b, 40213 Düsseldorf, where we continue to rely on a highly professional team to provide improved individualized, autologous and targeted treatments in the best interest of our patients.
Regenerative Medicine & Molecular Orthopedics
Peter Wehling, MD, PhD
Peter Wehling has laid the scientific basis for regenerative pain therapies and has translated his research into meaningful clinical applications. He has published numerous research projects in international specialists journals and has authored the book “The End of Pain” telling the story behind his therapies.
Furthermore, Dr. Wehling is the founder and CEO of the biotech-company Orthogen AG, where he and his team continuously research, improve and develop clinical applications for musculoskeletal diseases as well as pathologies outside the orthopedic spectrum.
As an ambitioned spine surgeon, Dr. Wehling has been interested in the non-mechanical effects and solutions in orthopedics and spine diseases from the very beginning of his residency. While treating patients suffering from disc prolapses, Dr. Wehling observed that the magnitude of mechanical compression on the nerve did not correlate with the experienced pain intensity.
He experienced that some patients with a former herniated disc still experienced the same radiating pain after the herniation has been removed surgically. How could pain still be present, if the mechanical problem has been solved? The answer to this was the inflammatory and immunological components which remained after surgery in those patients, as Dr. Wehling discovered.
Little time later, Peter Wehling demonstrated that inflammatory molecules placed at a nerve root, without any mechanical compression, resulted in radiating pain. This way, he soon began to realize that the text-books were partially wrong to ascribe back pain to a ruptured disc pressing against a nerve. Instead, he formulated a new biological paradigm placing inflammation at the heart of the problem.
His belief in the biochemical and biomolecular importance has driven Dr. Wehling’s research and clinical application ever since.
